Hello! My name is Jeanine White. I have a husband, Jude, and a 3 year old named Vincent.
In 2003 I attended UNC-Greensboro for 4 years. At the time I wanted to teach elementary school. The summer between my Junior and Senior years I worked at a camp in Raleigh for children with disabilities. I was a little overwhelmed by the thought of it, but figured I could give it a try. I immediately fell in love with the special needs community. After that, I was unsure if I wanted to work with “typical” children anymore. I was so close to finishing my degree that I just wanted to get it finished and from there I would figure out where I wanted to be. During the year after I graduated, I worked with all ages of people with disabilities through the Parks and Recreation department in Raleigh and ended up teaching a P.E. class at Frankie Lemmon. I fell in love again! There was an opening at the end of the school year and they offered me a job. I have been an assistant there for a while, and now I am a Lead Teacher. I am now working towards my teaching licensure from ECU.
I am crafty to the core! I enjoy all types of crafting; cardmaking, jewelry making, knitting, sewing, sock monkey making, coloring, drawing, etc. My sock monkeys have been my favorites to make for a while and I sell them at a local craft fair around the holidays in December. I also enjoy playing the piano. I seem to be out of practice with these things lately (Vincent seems to enjoy interrupting or “helping”).
I strive to make every child as successful as possible. I push my students to be independent and learn to excel to the best of their ability, whether they have delays or not. I encourage differences and celebrate them as well as acceptance among their peers.
